Goals

Situation: Bihar is one of the poorest states in India, yet is simultaneously one of the fastest growing. In fact, it is the third most populous state in India, with children constituting 46% of its 104 million people; the highest proportion of children in all of India. However, like many other impoverished and underserved communities, the children of Bihar lead unfathomably difficult, taxing lives. The obstacles these young kids unfortunately face, in conjunction with a lack of even basic educational resources - such as textbooks, backpacks, writing tools, and more - tend to adversely hinder their educational development, thus preventing them from achieving their full academic potential. Children are the face of the future, and they should be granted sufficient opportunities and resources to be educated, and therefore have a chance to transform and shape society for the better. These children can then change not only their own trajectories, but also those of future generations in their communities.

My Mission

Children are the face of the future, yet we fail to provide so many of them the chance to promote change and transform society. We do this by failing them in their right to receive good quality education; the foundation for change and enlightenment. I believe education is a vital right that every child should have.

My aim is to help give them as similar a chance as kids in more privileged communities have at achieving their full academic potential, to help give them a fighting chance to succeed in life.

About Us

Hello! My name is Deeya Gupta, and I am a Senior at Northview High School in Johns Creek, Georgia. I am also a member of Girl Scouts of Atlanta, Georgia.

I’ve recently had the opportunity to spend time with and assist the inspiring, wonderful children at one of the most impoverished elementary schools in Patna, India: Balwadi. After speaking with the school’s principal, Mrs. Sarita Prasad, I was devastated to hear the personal stories and predicaments of many of the young children at the school. Many of these children face desperately unfortunate situations at home, so much so that some rarely come to school, come to school suffering the aftermath of substance abuse, come to school hungry, or are simply struggling with school. Other children don’t see the value of being educated, given that they have to tend to more pressing needs such as working to help feed their families. Mrs. Sarita Prasad told me that if they had sufficient educational resources and supplies, they believe they could improve the attendance of the children, and make their educational environment and experience more captivating and beneficial. These children, coupled with my belief in the importance of education and equal opportunity, inspired me to pursue my goal to make a difference in these children’s lives and give them a chance to achieve their full potential.
